Why we make memory bears.

I started making memory bears after my father passed away. He always wore button-down plaid shirts, so I made bears for the whole family as well as lap quilts from his shirts. I've been sewing for 30+ years and found it to be therapeutic for me.

I started offering bears made from children's clothing and love going through all of the cute things buyers send in. It's very rewarding being able to see how excited buyers are with the final results.

Lately I have been making bears for former team members of Spirit Airlines as well — and there have been lots of tears when they pick up their bear. It feels very meaningful to be providing people with a way to remember and honor their loved ones and their families — extended families (coworkers) included.
